What the learning materials offer

Pictures alongside numbers

Counters, tens and ones, number lines and fraction pictures give learners something to look at as they work with numbers. Choose a representation that makes sense to your learner.

Short instructions and examples

Worksheet examples show how to start. Brief instructions reduce the amount of reading before a maths task. You can model the example together before trying the next question.

A familiar way to practise

Year-level worksheets use recurring question and answer layouts. Revisit a useful example and choose a small amount of practice at a time.

One idea, shown clearly

For addition, a picture or a set of counters can show how two groups join together.

Make ten, then add what is left:

8 + 7 = 10 + 5 = 15

For more starting points, try the free addition-symbol lesson or explore the public addition resources.

Use the example as a starting point. A year label describes the content level; choose what fits the learner’s current understanding.

A simple way to start

  1. Choose one idea. Start with something familiar and preview the lesson yourself.
  2. Show an example together. Point to the pictures or use real objects if they help.
  3. Try a little, then check in. Allow time to respond, revisit the example or take a break.

Autistic learners have different strengths, preferences and support needs. These materials are also available to learners with special educational needs or additional learning needs, but no single layout works for everyone. Try the free lessons to judge the fit with your learner.
